Wolf Pack is the new supernatural mystery that is having fans howl with excitement.

The Paramount + series, written and executive produced by the creator of Teen Wolf, Jeff Davis, centres on a teenage boy and girl whose lives are changed forever when a California wildfire awakens a horrifying supernatural creature. The pair are joined by several other teens who band together to unravel the secret that connects them as the full moon rises.

Alongside the already-released series, Paramount+ also premiered a Teen Wolf revival movie on the same day, which stars characters from the original series, such as Tyler Posey and Holland Roden.

But the most exciting thing about the furry wolf takeover on Paramount is that Sarah Michelle Gellar has returned to our supernatural screens two decades after Buffy the Vampire Slayer for Wolf Pack. Furthermore, the 45-year-old has put her expertise in the genre to good use by executive producing the series. So with Wolf Pack in such good hands, what else do we need to know about it? Read ahead to find out more:

What is the plot of Wolf Pack?

According to the show's official synopsis, Wolf Pack "follows a teenage boy and girl whose lives are changed forever when a California wildfire awakens a terrifying supernatural creature and drives it to attack a highway traffic jam beneath the burning hills."

"Wounded in the chaos, the boy and girl are inexplicably drawn to each other and to two other teenagers who were adopted sixteen years earlier by a park ranger after another mysterious wildfire. As the full moon rises, all four teens come together to unravel the secret that connects them - the bite and blood of a werewolf."

The show is based on Edo Van Belkom's book series of the same name.

Jeff Davis, creator of the mega-hit show Teen Wolf, which ran from 2011 to 2017, wrote and executive produced the show alongside Sarah. Speaking at the San Diego Comic-Con, Jeff gushed: "Everyone knows that Buffy the Vampire Slayer was a huge influence on Teen Wolf. So I always thought it would be amazing if we could bring Sarah Michelle Gellar back to a horror show."

Who stars in Wolf Pack?

Alongside Sarah, the cast includes Amy Pietz, Rodrigo Santoro, Armani Jackson, Bella Shepard, Chloe Rose Robertson and Tyler Lawrence Gray.

What does Sarah Michelle Gellar play in Wolf Pack, and what has she said about the series?

Sarah makes her grand supernatural telly comeback playing an arson investigator named Kristin Ramsey. The show and her character were dubbed a "Buffy descendent" by The Hollywood Reporter, with the actress telling the publication: "To come back, to get projects made, you have to pay homage to what you're known for. If I do things that speak to the fan base — which I think these will — and gather some new people along the way, maybe I branch out again. It's not the next act for me, but it's certainly a new chapter."

In a separate interview with the PA news agency, the star explained why she was so drawn to the supernatural genre. "You get to tell deeper stories," she said. "I think supernatural sometimes allows the most superhuman stories to be told. Which I love because it's creative."

Sarah continued: "It's about what really scares us in our mind and those manifestations.

"So, in this one (Wolf Pack), we're talking about anxiety, we're talking about fire, we're talking about this digital world, and what it's done, back to our anxiety, we're talking about finding your pack and feeling alone, and what that does when you don't feel like you fit in somewhere. And these kinds of shows usually are the best ones to be able to tell those stories. Because honestly, life is really hard.
