An Illinois in-home daycare worker is behind bars after she allegedly caused fatal injuries to an infant by shaking her and then Googled "shaken baby syndrome." According to WAND-TV, citing police, 24-year-old Taylor Burris told authorities she was caring for 7-week-old Maren Gallagher on May 17, when she was hit in the head with a ball thrown by another child. Following the alleged injury at her Forsyth, Ill., home, Burris then reportedly put Maren down for a nap.

An 82-year-old man was violently attacked and killed by a serial felon at a bus stop in Portland on June 27. Donald A. Pierce, 82, and Edward Lichtenstein, 88, were the victims of an unprovoked attack near the Portland State University campus. Lichtenstein has been released from hospital, but Pierce died from his injuries at a hospital more than a week after the attack.  Witnesses told police that Keffer James White, 29, approached the men and started making fun of them for being old.
