For anyone who grew up watching Miley Cyrus in Hannah Montana , the star just did a throwback that has given us ALL the feels.
The singer took to Twitter to post snaps of a love letter she wrote dedicated to her on-screen alter-ego to mark the 15th anniversary of the show’s premiere on the Disney Channel, naturally penned on lilac and pink Hannah Montana writing paper.
Miley starred in the TV show between 2006 and 2011, which made her a household name. She played Miley Stewart, a teenage girl who lived a double life as famous pop singer Hannah Montana. The success of the series saw Miley shot to fame as a pop star outside of her Disney persona.
In the letter, Miley thanks her on-screen character for being “the greatest gift a girl could ask for” and reveals “you were like a rocket that flew me to the moon + never brought me back down,” going on to recall memories of her time working on the famous show.
The letter begins:
"Hi, Hannah. It's been a while, 15 years to be exact. Since the first time I slid those blonde bangs over my forehead in the best attempt to conceal my identity. Then slipped into a puke pink terry cloth robe with a bedazzled HM over the heart. I didn't know then... that is where you would live forever. Not just in mine but millions of people around the world. Although you are considered to be an 'alter ego' in reality there was a time in my life when you held more of my identity in your glovette than I did in my bare hands."

We’ve shared many firsts. Alot of lasts. Ups. Downs. Tears + laughs. I lost my Poppy, my dad’s father while on set filming an early episode of season 1. He wanted to hold on long enough to catch the premiere on March 24th. He passed February 28th. He did get to see the commercial that ran during High School Musical which he claimed was one of the proudest moments in his lifetime.”
She also spoke about how difficult it was for her to say goodbye to the series in 2011, saying it was “bittersweet to know I would be leaving you behind in stage 9, which is where I say I grew up when asked. It was my home” but thanks her character for everything she gave her.

There were rumours last year that Hannah Montana might be revived on Disney+ for a prequel series. According to reports, Miley’s dad in the show and in real life, Billy Ray Cyrus, had been interested in appearing in a spin off but the actress playing his daughter would have to be younger than the Miley/Hannah we saw back in 2006 if it is to be a prequel.
